Woody has many, many super powers, but among them is his ability to match duvet covers with amazing and handsome ease.
See for example how his ears and points and nose took on a pink glow when we lived in Madison and had a pink duvet?
Could it possibly be the same cat who looks downright tan against the back drop of our new duvet and comforter, a wonderful and much used gift from my mom and dad?
Without those gorgeous blue eyes, he would be invisible.

Amber & Blizzard
So, I am sick. I was so sick on Christmas Eve, my mom and dad had to drive me back because I couldn't have taken the train. While I am here, stuck in bed, under my cozy new comforter (another thanks to mom and dad) eating coconut balls (thanks to Auntie Carol) and surrounded by cats (thanks to Woody, Tiggy, Ginger and Pickles), this is what is happening outside.
Some days, you are glad to be in bed.
Danger! Decorations!

Amber & It's All In There
This weekend, a new kitty environment was added to my household.
This Super Fabulous Kitty House really sums up the weekend. It was made by my fantastic sister.
Candice is seen here prepping for her trip to the Gulf where she helped out with the oil clean up efforts by wrapping herself in toilet paper and then rolling around on the beach. See? She is not only very giving of environments to the kitties, but she also helps out the other Al Gore kind of environment.
In addition to being made by the birthday girl, out of the box which contained an air conditioner present from my parents which made my apartment completely livable again, which they gave me on their visit, and which my dad and Bernard installed, the Super Fabulous Kitty House also reminds me of all the fun games the cats played in it all weekend which reminds me that I had a super fun time watching the World Cup Soccer game on Sunday with Nick and Diana after brunch at La Palapa. And that reminds me of huevos rancheros con salsa verde. And that pile of green stew and white creamy stuff on an egg makes me happy.
See? The Super Fabulous Kitty House is really quite representative of my whole weekend.

Amber & My Birth Mom
Happy October 28th! Today is my mother's birthday! Happy Evelyn Anniversary!
Also, let us stop to note that it is the one year anniversary of the day that I realized I failed to commemorate the one year anniversary of this here blog. That, mathematically, would have made it the two year anniversary of my journalistic career, had I remembered. Such humble beginnings. Last year, I did all kinds of fancy math and revealed my true identity. This year, I am too tired to click over to Analytics. Instead, I offer this birthday wish for both my mom and my blog.
And I throw in a little bit of this because it's been a hard couple of years for all us and we could use the comfort.
May my blog be like a kitty paw of comfort during your morning browsing.

Amber & Mother's Day
Two of my favorite things.
CRD & burgers.
Thank goodness for mothers because without them, there would be no CRD, and no me to eat burgers.

Amber & Mom Jewels
Thanks, Mom.
Not just for birthing me or introducing me to Beatrix Potter, Paddington Bear, and Ginny, and not just for feeding me (mostly canned tomatoes) for the first 18 years of my life or helping me write letters to Wonder Woman. But also thanks for giving me this pretty necklace.

It's a little glarey in this photo, but it's got three strands of little aqua-colored buttons attached by little aqua beads. It's my favorite necklace and it really dresses up any number of my plain gray and black outfits. Why, it can even make yoga pants dressy enough for the theatre. I get compliments on it all the time.
It also reminds me a bit of something my hero, Dr. Temperance Brennan, would wear. She always has such nice, big pieces of jewelry. Very anthropological.
Something that is also anthropological and also of psychological and phenomenological interest (maybe if I knew what that mean really) is that sometimes my heroes merge. Like when Bones dressed like Wonder Woman for Halloween.
Double the pleasure. Or like when Jessica Fletcher is in a Noel Coward play. Which brings us back to my necklace and my mom. Eagle bites weasel.
