Amber & New Career Paths

I just signed up for ice skating lessons!  On Mondays at 7:00 pm, I'll be refreshing my on-ice skills and, I hope, developing new ones.

Now, I just need to get my mom to make me one of those outfits over the weekend.

When Kevin gets back from his doctor's appointment, I'll break the news to him so he can start finding my replacement.  Nick told me the shocking news that Ice Capades are out of business, but I think I will make a great Princess Jasmine.

Or, I could be the skating alligator, like in my second favorite ennui comedy.  (Wait for it.  It's in there.)

Amber & Breaking News

I am taking a moment out from my anti-antibiotic biological reactions to bring you this hot news item. Although I don't really care so much about all the controversy at that award show, it did lead me to do some research and discover this great song by Beyoncé called "If You Like My Hand Then You Should Have Put A Ring On It."

Now, I know. I know. You got the criticism; I am aware of it. But those are some awesome dance moves and that is one physically fit lady. And she has a robotic hand thing!
I totally want one of those. Heck, I already wear leotards all the time to amortize the cost of the dance equipment I bought for that tap class in Wisconsin and because I like to pretend I am Ruby Keeler while making Excel workbooks.

After I saw the video and compared favorite dance moves with CRD, he pointed out THAT was what that whole SNL skit with Paul Rudd, Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg and that chubby guy in leotards was all about. Who knew?

And then Nick was all, "Did you know it's an hommage to that Bob Fosse choreographed Gwen Verdon dance number called 'Mexican Breakfast?'" Apparently, really recently (2007) someone dubbed a contemporary song over the original score and dance fun ensued. Here is the current song with those original dance moves.

Remember folks: you learned all about it here on Amber & first.

Amber & Emotional Journeys

This gave me and the person I was with chills when we saw it in the context of its program, Glee.

And it started my current 1980's song obsession.

Amber & Knowing Thine Audience

This one is for you, CRD.

And we thought we were the only ones reading that gay subplot into The Rundown.

Amber & The Hood

My new neighborhood has an award-winning musical written all about it, The Heights. I live three blocks south of the G.W., so I feel like I should go see this musical to learn more about my home base.

Notice the bunch of people dancing and singing on the steps in front of an apartment building? Now I know that what woke me up at 3 a.m. last night was actually the sound of "an exhilarating journey into one of Manhattan's most vibrant communities, where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music."

Amber & Kaleidoscope Dreams

It's me again, CRD.

One thing I know for sure about Amber is she went to the University of New York and majored in Cinema Studies, minoring in Magazine Administration.

Part of the reason for educational path was her affinity for, and resemblance to, Miss Ruby Keeler, as evidenced below.

Another reason is she dreamed of hoofing it in big cinemascope musicals, like her idol Keeler. She took a lesson from the Mr. Miyagi school of thought - learn your trade from the inside out.

To date, all her education has yet to pay off on the silver screen, but she's still taking tap classes & she hasn't given up hope yet. Let's all clap our hands for our own little Tinkerbell that her dreams come true!
