Amber & Old Friends

Kevin is an old friend.
I don't mean that, since he turns 36 years old today, I consider him an old gentleman. I still think of him as being young-- at least younger than me.

But, I have known him since Ye Olde Times-- half his life, actually. His friendship has been super important to me. And I just like him: he is smart, fun, caring, and has good hair. He also makes a swell Professional Colleague, as seen here in this photo taken by our other Profesh, Ed, at our biznuss lunch.

My friends are among my favorite things, and Kevin is among the favorites among my favorites.

Thanks, Kevin, for being borned.

Amber & Ceiling Fans

Also unexpected is the amount of amusement being above the ceiling fans looking down provides to the kitties.

If you click on the photo to see it larger and then look on the top shelf at the top of the stairs, you will notice Tiggy occupying the highest possible spot in the entire house with a clear view of the fans below.

Amber & Sewing

I abandoned the old Craft In Progress. It was a crocheted sweater using a really thick, fuzzy yarn. I just couldn't see the difference between the stitches well enough. I never really got enough done (well) to update the project status from "About six inches!"

So, this weekend, I got back in the sewing habit. I did some work on some long overdue craft gifts, but realized that I lost the challenging faces for the project. I need to buy some toner and print them out again (since I can't cut a circle even with a pattern) but then I should be able to wrap them up pretty quickly. Just in time for Christmas!

In the meantime, I started a new garment!

I've shortened the dress in the photo on the pack to be a blouse and am using a Michael Miller fabric called "Pod Vine" in avocado. I had washed and pressed the fabric ages ago. So far, I've cut the pieces and basted them together. Tomorrow I have Awesome Club, so I don't expect to make much progress until Wednesday when I plan to put all the pieces together.

Maybe I can wear it to First CSA Pick Up this week!

Or, maybe it will never get finished and just become a cat environment.

Amber & Bonus Content

Along with my order of pad thai and thai iced tea, today's lunch came with an editorial comment on the delivered delivery menu.

In case you forgot your bifocals, it says...

"the sangria was really bad today -- usually it's much better"

It's like an insider tip. I'm glad I didn't opt for a one sangria lunch.

Amber & The View From Here

My new job at Mother Goose, Inc., is different than my old job in many ways. In addition to the big difference of me not taking bus trips with the constituency, there is also a very different look to my new office.

This was the view from my old desk.

Grand and snowy. Actually, it was the view from standing up on top of my old desk. The windows were pretty high up off the floor and I was too short.

This is the view from my new office.

There are still plants, but less, and the windows are still high up, but more relative to the ground and less relative to me. And I still have my blue Garden bottle that will give my babies beards.

One big difference is that I have officemates. You met Sake already, but did you meet this guy?

Look how hard we work! He wasn't even posing for the photo. I swear.

Amber & Dumplings

Yesterday, after a hard day at the office listening in on conference calls, Kevin and I went back to his house, where Diana, who was home on vacation, had separated a whole chicken and turned it into dinner. Diana had wanted to greet us at the door, wearing a '50s housedress, and I wished we had briefcases to set down before our martini. But, instead, we got the most delicious chicken and dumplings I have ever eaten.

Those are delicious collards on the side. And I got some kind of breast of meat that I ate in its entirety. Also, that is champagne! We toasted to my new job, Kevin getting fat, and Diana being free of back pain.
