Amber & Thank You, Autumn

Autumn, I appreciate you making it the perfect weather for button-down shirts and cardigans.  And ties with apes on them!

Wait-- did you see that?  It has like gorilla or chimpy buddies on it!  It's hard to tell which because they seem to have chimpy faces, but very gorilla-like developed pectoral muscles.  I love it.

No, really!  My tie is covered in purple apes!  Jimmy tells me that in the 1950s and '60s, an editor at DC had a list of things to put on comic covers to increase sales and that a purple ape was one of them.  My tie is going to sell like hotcakes!  Did you see the apes?

Thank you, fall.  And thank you Nick for the tie.  And thank you YouTube for teaching me how to tie a non-bow-tie on myself.

Amber & Fall Wardrobes

Now that Hurricane Earl (not to be confused with Erl) has ushered in cooler, more fall-like weather, I found myself staring at my armoir, completely unable to figure out what to wear.

I mean, which one of these outfits is the snuggly and warm, but also fun for a September Sunday?

Why does it take so long for me to get dressed in the morning lately?  And why is my dresser always so messy?

Amber & Handmade

Over the weekend, I made this scarf to celebrate the cold weather in Boston.  It's made with Cascade Yarns 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, using a garter rib stitch.  It was my first venture into a bulky yarn with a needle above a size 10.  I found it fast and easy, and it only sort of felt like cheating.

It has been pointed out that I forgot to smize in this photo.  That is because, for some unknown reason, I am incredibly dizzy today.  Like when you drink way too much and have to lie down on the bathroom floor after Margaritas with your boss from the music theater licensing place at a Mexican restaurant at your first job after college?  And then you swear off tequila? Only, I am not drunk.  It could be sinus congestion, or it could be an ear thing.  I am waiting for the doctor to call me back.  I really need the room to stop spinning.

Amber & Autumnal Buds

It was a lovely November weekend, complete with fuzzy buds on this tree. Which reminded me of my kitties.

Amber & Where I Wasn't

(photo by Peter, who was there)

Amber & A Very Special November 5th

Today is a super nice day for two reasons.

First, it's the perfect temperature outside for knee socks.

These are rare fall (and spring days) where there's a breeze, but it's not too chilly.  You can wear a skirt without looking unseasonable and pair it with a long coat and a scarf.  Magic!  The perfect kind of day for patent leather, double-strap Earth Shoes that are so very 2012: near-futuristic.  And knee socks.

The second nice thing is that it's Eddie's birthday.

Eddie was kind enough to come to my Junior Prom with me. He was tolerated being called "Eddie Spaghetti" by my mom, and making punch jokes with my dad.  He was voted class cutie, and, in college, entertained Faith, Jamie and I will his performances in the penthouse of our dorm.  He's a fantastic guy, and he loves pooches.  Happy birthday, Eddie!

Amber & Spooks

Was it a mistake getting my hair cut on Halloween?  I feel like that was asking for It.  But, I think it's okay.

Right?

Amber & Comfort Zone

Today is it. It's the perfect fall weather. Why am I so cranky when it is so lovely and totally within my four degree comfort temperature range?

Amber & Mahvelous Ladies

I love Bill Cunningham, but I don't actually know who he is. I know he's not this guy, and I know he thinks it's just wonderful how the ladies dress themselves with such individual style and flair.

Every week, he does a report on what he saw the ladies wearing from the prior week. He's always awe struck by their genius, and I get swept up in his enthusiasm. He gets mentioned alot on Gawker, where I also learned that someone tried to identity theft him! And, I also read about this scandal where he dismissed a minion. Apparently, I am not alone in my adoration.

In this week's audio slideshow, he notes how ladies are dealing with the cold weather and wind. He also goes off on a tangent about how "witch" rhymes with something he doesn't want to be mistaken for saying, so he doesn't include a photo of one in case.... well, it doesn't really make sense. But I sure love him!

Amber & Autumn

It is fall. You can tell because there are leaves on the ground and I have been wearing my brown skirt with the leaves on it, too. Other signs include: acorn squash, the tortilla soup I made for dinner last night, and the fact that I am wearing wool socks today.

I've been bad at blogging not because of fall, but because I've been distracted. Some of the distractions were good and some not so good-- I'll be updating you this week.

In the meantime, enjoy the season.

Amber & Early Autumn, Late Planes

I love rainy autumn days. I love raincoats and sweaters and boots and tights. I love the smell of wet trees. I love the sound of wet leaves russling in the breeze.

I don't love it that a little rain has delayed Kevin's return to America, though.

Hurry back, little Kevin, so you don't miss out on autumn.
